Your hair care routine

However, each routine shares some basic components.

Although your hair type and interests may affect your hair care routine in a certain way, there are some basic steps that everyone can benefit from.

  1. Cleaning
Hair cleansing is a balance between removing things like dead skin cells and product residue without stripping the hair of its natural oils.
Without a good wash, sebum will begin to accumulate, leaving unwanted oil.
Similarly, dead skin cells are lost if not removed. The skin renews itself approximately every 28 days, and this can be noticeable if the hair is not clean.
If you enjoy swimming, you don't want to leave chlorine on your hair. The longer it stays on, the greater the chance of it negatively affecting your hair.

  2. Hydration
The conditioner has many benefits. The main benefit is moisturizing, but there are also other benefits such as detangling, shine, and frizz reduction.
The main ingredient in the conditioner is called a "cationic surfactant".
When hair is moistened with water, this ingredient adheres to the hair and coats the strands to restore moisture that may have been removed by shampoo.

  3. Hydration and sealing
To add more moisture to the hair, you may want to follow a two-step process known as conditioning and sealing.
This process can be particularly beneficial for curly or coiled hair that tends to be dry.
The goal is to lock in moisture in the hair using a moisturizing product and a finishing oil.

  4. Untangling
Detangling is essential to prevent hair breakage and to make your life easier.
However, the right tool, such as a wide-toothed comb, must be used to avoid accidentally pulling out hair.
Depending on your hair type, you may need to detangle your hair daily or less frequently.

  5. Styling and protection
Thanks to many tools and tricks such as hair thickeners and gels, you can style your hair any way you want.
But if you're a fan of hot tools, you'll need to protect your hair strands with a heat protectant spray.

  6. Treatment of specific areas
Spot treatment means choosing a specific area that bothers you and doing something to address it.
For example, if you are frustrated with your hair's frizz, you could try a protein treatment.
Or if you notice that your scalp is dry, you can apply a nourishing product designed for that.

The products and tools used in each step vary considerably.
Although most people religiously adhere to the above steps, there is no specific product or tool you must commit to.
Instead, try different products to find what suits you.
